Derek Michael Pfaff
Starting running back on Harbor Beach’s state championship football team. 4.0 gpa nursing student at SVSU. Derek had it all. And he lost it in an instant.

Derek attempted suicide. It's truly a miracle he survived the gun shot that wiped out his entire face. He was a freshman in college and home on spring break. He doesn't remember getting the gun or shooting himself. Saved by the grace of God, the support of his family and community, and the miraculous work of his doctors, Derek began the slow road to recovery. It has been a long, painful road of 58 surgeries and recoveries, but Derek has remained singularly focused on the goal of his recovery: helping others avoid the mistake he made.
For a moment, Derek felt like life wasn't worth living. Since that moment, he has fought to live every day.
